A Sacred Day for Our Parish and Our Community

We were blessed to witness a truly historic moment: the consecration of the Church of St John the Baptist in Cairns, officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

This was the first church consecration in North Queensland in over 60 years. More than a ceremony, it was a profound act of faith that forever sets this church apart as a house of God.

From this day forward, every baptism, wedding, prayer, and memorial within these walls will carry the blessing of this sacred day.

As we were beautifully reminded, when we sanctify a church, we sanctify a region. North Queensland was truly blessed. And the challenge now belongs to each of us: to become living temples, with consecrated hearts.

We are deeply humbled and grateful to everyone who shared in this holy moment. Community helping community, together in faith, together always.

All glory be to God.

On the eve of a historic milestone, our community gathered for a beautiful gala evening to honour a remarkable journey, one built on faith, sacrifice, and the unwavering spirit of the Greek Orthodox Parish of St John the Baptist in Cairns.

Together we shared not just a meal, but hearts filled with joy and spiritual emotion, as we prepared to witness the consecration of our church, the first in Far North Queensland since 1935.

A consecrated church is eternal in purpose. It exists not only for those gathered that evening, but for generations yet unborn: to be baptised, married, comforted, and forgiven within its walls.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this unforgettable evening. Community helping community, together in faith, together always.

Our events aim to bring wellness, entertainment and fulfilment back into the lives of people in our community. Contact our team for more information or to register your interest.
