Theo Bacalakis1

Theo Bacalakis


Theo is the Chairperson and a founding member of St. John’s Community Care. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Theo is also a Board Member of St. John the Baptist Day Care Centre Cairns Ltd, St Paraskevi Child Care Centre Taigum Ltd and is a Trustee of The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia Consolidated Trust. Theo has served on many community-based organisations including the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation for many years as well as serving on government ministerial advisory boards and for-profit Boards. Theo is dedicated and has a strong commitment to enriching the lives of people in our community.

Chas has served on the Board since 1997. He continues to passionately champion and support the services provided by St John’s Community Care to ensure individuals, families and the community have access to services that provide choice, support and independence.He also serves on the Board of the Parish of St Paraskevi Taigum Childcare Centre bringing skills in leadership and collaborative approaches to support organisational vision. He graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from University Central Queensland, is a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, Registered Professional Engineer, Queensland, Chartered Professional Engineer and Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Les Lazarus1

Les Lazarus


Leslie is the Company Secretary of St. John’s Community Care. Being a local Cairns boy, Les Lazarus is committed to being part of a team dedicated to delivering premium services to Cairns and multiple areas throughout Queensland. Prior to retirement Les was the founding director of a successful steel fabrication business in Cairns for 26 years. His knowledge and experience in this industry has further enhanced his commitment to support community care services, through St. John’s Community Care. As a Director and Board Member of other not for profit organisations Leslie has a commitment to Early Childhood.

Peter Mappas


Peter has a long history supporting not-for-profit community organisations in North Queensland. He joined St John’s Community Care in 2005 with over 40 years of extensive property market experience in both commercial and retail sector. He remains committed and focused to achieve excellence and sustainable growth for people that both work at St John’s and those that we care for. Delivering the highest level of care with integrity and humility.

Thomas Triantafillou1

Thomas Triantafillou


Thomas is a well-known and highly regarded businessperson having operated successful businesses in North Queensland over the past thirty years. Thomas is an active member of the facilities, new projects, and maintenance subcommittee as well as a member the fundraising and events subcommittee. He is passionate in supporting the most vulnerable members of our community to live independently in their own homes where possible.

Gerry Vallianos1

Gerry Vallianos


Gerry has a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in management. He has extensive experience in several small businesses which include retail, postal service and the accommodation and hospitality fields with over 30 years’ experience in business. Gerry has served in the Greek Orthodox Communities of Saints Theodores, Dormition of the Theotokos Innisfail and Saint John’s Cairns assisting with these Parishes.
