Urban Spaces – 9th to 22nd September 2015 – Orchid Plaza, Cairns
St John’s Community Care had the privilege to participate in the Cairns Regional Council, urban space initiative. The urban space initiative was an opportunity for St John’s Community Care to reach the wider Cairns community regarding valuable community services that are available.
The project is all about revitalizing empty shop spaces within the Cairns precinct by allowing charity or non-for-profit organisations to utilize the space to increase promotion of not only the service but to strengthen and energize the local community.
St John’s Community Care held two presentations during the two week period. The first presentation was provided to disability community members by Desmond Lee, Regional Director, FNQ Disability and Community Services regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The second presentation was provided by Judith Groube, Team Leader from the Cairns Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), with a set of older clients with information regarding the My Aged Care changes that occurred this year. The clients were well informed in the governmental changes and were appreciative of their involvement in these presentations.
There was plenty of delicious catered food for both events that were much too tempting.
The initiative not only brought community members together however students, stakeholders and potential clients who were able to access an array of information and support through St John’s Community Care
